Slime Rancher 2 has many features for you to engage with. Basic gameplay involves exploring the world, developing the Conservatory by building corrals, garden plots, and coops, finding resources so you can craft gadgets or upgrades, talking to old friends at the CommStation, and, of course, collecting slimes to receive plorts that you can sell at the Plort Market or deposit in the refinery.
After developing the Conservatory and earning a tidy stash of newbucks, you’ll also be able to expand your ranch, shop at the ProntoMart, and more!
It might all be a bit overwhelming, but we’re here with some helpful suggestions.
Ranching
At the start, you should likely focus on building up your ranching capabilities at the Conservatory to give you a steady supply of newbucks and plorts. When you feed a slime, you receive plorts. To maximize production, you should create a largo slime, as they produce more plorts. A largo slime is a combination of two slime types made by letting one slime eat the plort of another kind. Feeding their favorite food will also produce twice the plorts, so build a garden or coop to produce a supply of that favorite. To make more Hen Hens, you'll also need a Roostro in the coop, so keep that in mind.
Once you've got the slimes and food you want, you can rest in your ranch house to skip time past the growing cycle to get Newbucks more quickly. This will let you upgrade your plots, be more efficient, and even help you get more corrals ready for your next batch of slimes.
Upgrades
Now that you have some money and plorts to spare, you can craft the Resource Harvester at the Fabricator (found down the stairs next to the Plort Market board in the Conservatory). Once you have that, you can start collecting resources wherever they appear.
The next most important upgrades are the Jetpack, so you can go more places, and the Extra Tanks, to increase your vac slots. To help make these, explore Ember Valley, where you can find the necessary module for the Extra Tanks, along with resources like Silky Sand and Radiant Ore.
Opportunities
Keep an eye out for blink-and-you'll-miss-it opportunities that crop up in the world at times. For example, Yolky Slimes are rather rare, so if you spot one, grab it. Gold Slimes are also rare, but can't be vac'd — if you see one, try shooting food at it instead. And the weather throughout the game is constantly changing; you can read details about it on your map, and if you notice the weather is a level 3 event, you may want to stick around and see if something special happens.
Another thing to watch for is decor and gadgets as you explore. While you'll be able to craft these from blueprints, they also appear out in the world. You might not realize it's something you can take! So, if you see something interesting, it’s worth switching to your Gadget menu to see if you can pick it up to decorate your Conservatory… or anywhere else you want to make your own.
Have Fun
Most importantly, play however you like. We've given our players a lot of freedom to explore this world how they want to. These tips can help make things go more smoothly, but what really matters is that you enjoy yourself, so do what works best for you.
We hope you have a wonderful time on Rainbow Island!
